The Premier of Queensland Australia, Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the news that United Airlines will fly from San Francisco to Brisbane Airport three times a week from October.

As part of the north-eastern Australian state government’s AU$200 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, in collusion with Brisbane Airport Corporation, the deal was brokered with United Airlines (UAL) to service the new route with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, according to AviationSource

The three-weekly flight scheduling will deliver an extra 40,000 international seat capacity into the state capital of Brisbane each year.

In May this year, United Airlines announced the resumption of its nonstop service from San Francisco to Melbourne.

United is the only US airline operating nonstop flights into Melbourne, and this service complements the airline’s existing service between Sydney and its hubs in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Since the reopening of Australian borders to international travelers in February, there has been significant growth in demand for travel from the USA.

United's Numbers

United Airlines' numbers have been on the rise in the last week, with the airline recording a 24.77% increase in flights between May 28-June 4.

Such a figure amounts to around 3,526, with the same period last year recorded at 2,826.

By tomorrow (At the time of writing), it is expected that the airline will have handled around 3,702 flights, which is more than last week's results.

Growth in the month of May for United Airlines has averaged anywhere between 20-45% in increases, which is indicating positive movement off the back of Summer 2021.

Looking ahead into the Summer 2022 season, we expect numbers to increase, but with mass cancellations occurring as a result of overcapacity, we will have to wait and see.
